The Story
I was taking hot yoga classes with my sister and every time we'd get out of a workout we'd climb into our car all sweaty. We tried shoving towels into the headrest of our car seat but they'd always fall down and sweat would soak through. We looked around the parking lot and everyone else in our class was doing the exact same thing. We knew we needed to solve the problem.
Introducing, Seat Hoody! A beautifully designed washable car seat cover that protects your seats from sweat and sand after a workout or a day at the beach.
MY ROLE
I wore multiple hats as a co-founder of Seat Hoody. In the early stages, I did user research and helped with product development. During our launch, I created the website and did a complete responsive web design. My day to day activities included redesigning the website during major marketing campaigns, tabling at events and talking with hundreds of customers, all while meeting monthly sales goals.
RESEARCH & Insights
We set out to interview other yogis and gym goers to see how widespread the problem was. To find product market fit we tabled at CrossFit gyms, yoga festivals, YMCA, and LA Fitness. We tabled at 40 gyms over the course of 3 months and talked to hundreds of customers. We found that CrossFitters and yogis were the people that wanted the Seat Hoody.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Below are images of how Seat Hoodys are produced today. The top images show how fabric is rolled and printed while the bottom images show the unique non-slip backing we've added to so that the Seat Hoody stays in place.
Final product design
The Seat Hoody is designed to keep the sweat off your car seat after you workout, and keep the sand off your seat after a day at the beach.
- 100% machine washable
- Fits all standard vehicle seats
- Easy on & off your seat - fits over your headrest.
- Non-slip Grippy Back - stays in place as you climb in and out of your car.
- Fold & Snap either or both sides of cover for side-seat airbag compatibility
PERSONAS
CrossFitters and yogis are our two primary target audiences.
A/B TESTING (CROSSFITTERS VS. YOGIS)
We directed traffic from our CrossFit and yogi audiences from CrossFit and yoga blogs to two different homepages to see which audience generated the most revenue. The CrossFit homepage had a 45% higher conversion rate. After this test, we decided to focus our efforts more on CrossFitters.
Reaching CROSSFITters
After user research and A/B testing, we decided to focus more marketing efforts on CrossFitters and set up a booth at CrossFit Regionals where we could be in front of 6,000 CrossFitters over the course of 3 days. Pictured below is one of our CrossFit influencers, Mckenzie Flinchum who has 69.2K followers on Instagram.
